Welcome to Gibbs Store.  Located in the heart of Engelhard, North Carolina, Gibbs Store has been a part of the community since 1895.

The early beginnings of the business started when the founder sold farm-related items out of a barn, located on the family farm.  The business eventually grew to include general merchandise.   Now that the business was growing, another location was needed.  Between 1895 and 1899, a store was built and the business was moved into the Village of Engelhard.  The business remains in the same building with only a few structural changes being made.

In the 1940’s an addition was completed and housed a wholesale grocery company and later housed the expansion of general merchandise products.  Over the years, warehouses have been constructed, additional property and buildings purchased in proximity to the store to accommodate the needs due to growth.     

As you enter the store, you will be crossing over the same threshold that has been used for well over 100 years.  Continue to the back of the store, and you will find a bench where many conversations were held and perhaps many decisions were made.   

As you look around the store, you will see items of history combined with present-day products.
